Rgruppe short hoods?

Well may be not all of them "official" r gruppe cars. One was certainly ahead of it's time in every way possible. Another gone, back and then gone again. Not so much early cars but more a "California style" 911 hot rod. Any more short hood cars out there with "official" status? Are there only 4?

We all know there are more back dated cars in the gruppe that what are shown here.

Ahead of it's time?

Voted by members as best of Treffen one year. Gone, back in black and now gone again to come back once more hopefully.

I think Nick Moss's 3.0 RS rep was in at one stage, though not 100% on that:

So how does one join the R-Gruppe? Is it open? Is it by invitation? Have I asked the silliest question ever? Is there an initiation test?

C'mon spell the beans...

I got in by applying to C.H. with info on my car, but that was a long time ago.

Recently, it's sorta closed, i.e. not seeking new members. I'm certain your car would qualify -- the problem is how are you going to participate in any events -- being on the East coast. It's hard enough in So. Orygun. Maybe one of the chapter meisters will contact you...

My perception of their rep is that if your not already in forget it.

Reminds me of Ted Knight in Caddyshack talking to Dangerfield,

"I can assure you, you'll never be a member here!"

I met a member here locally last summer who did little to change my opinion.

"Currently the club isn't seeking new members, but if you'd like to be considered for membership please send an email to the club founder; Cris Huergas with your name, contact information, a description of your car, and a few photos."

This is from the Group's website... So it's like you guys have said. I agree that it would be difficult to take parts to the events.. Especially from the UK!

Matteo, the web site and I think the official version says "we are not looking for new members" which is different from "not accepting new members". It has always been an "invitation only" situation. Originally was to be limited to 300 members world wide according to Freeman Thomas in an EXCELLENCE article a few years ago.
http://www.rgruppe.org/about/

"RGruppe Membership:
Currently the club isn't seeking new members, but if you'd like to be considered for membership please send an email to the club founder; Cris Huergas with your name, contact information, a description of your car, and a few photos"

Noah is #378. I'm #360. Lots of early members on the Early S BBS. I know there are members who have come and gone for any number of reasons but suspect the active membership may not be past 300. One of the things I like is that it is mandatory (at least in the NW chapter) in order to maintain your membership is you have to make a couple of RGruppe events every year. (with or without your car)

Like any club there are a few pin heads and some really nice guys and the typical politics internally. Although in general the Chapter meisters keep that under control. Most of the guys I have met are really just into driving and having fun in their "own" cars. Easy enough to get excited about that

It's still really a CA club. We have some elgible cars here in Florida but what's the point of joining a CA club.

Plus, rgrupe membership gets you the super secret handshake! That's almost worth the price of admission.

You should mail CH Teo, the car is super cool. No big deal if you can't get can't get to the US meets, you could organise one for R-Gruppers on this side of the pond. There are a few of them.

CA? May be, but not really. The Pac West chapter is very active as is the Mid West bunch. Both had a good turnout at the last Treffen.

But CA? Ya I will admit to that as the biggest group is North and South which is how Treffen first started with "North meets South". But not question the influence of CA on 911 hot rods either.

Lots of cars certainly fit the description. Lets see some more?

I agree.
Your car is very special. And that is against a background of modified 911s that are already special.

I think there is an honorary car outside the US already (BTW, thought you were in NC since your icon says that!).

If nothing else, I'm sure Cris would be interested in seeing the details on your car.

I am in NC right now but i am moving to London as soon as the car is ready basically.

I am hesitant in using the cars to open doors that would be closed otherwise.

Plus if really the bulk of the activity/events are in CA then it would be a little pointless...

I have friends (James Shira, Keith@Zuffenhaus etc) that are members, so i could always partecipate with them....

John Glynn's idea would be interesting if we could really sustain some sort of activity in Europe...

There are members is Australia, the Philippines and Europe. I'd be surprised if there wasn't some members in Britian as well.

I agree with Randy...Matteo's is a spectacular 911.

Teo, whether you end up in or out, there is a ton of stuff to do here with the cars and not enough time in the year to get to all of it.

There are definitely members in Europe to hook up with if you want to give it a shot. Same as the PCGB - you have to sign up to find out what it's all about and how it works for you (or not in some cases).

mmm... i can see you having a lot of fun in europe w/ your hot rod. first thing i'd do after a few shakedown runs is take it to, and ON, the 'ring. that will do a lot more for your porsche cred than a 3-digit window sticker

as for noah's car, the carbs are a step in the right direction, but how does the gruppe class such things- as a 'backdated shorthood' or an 'updated longhood'?

Briefly O/T: if you go back to SW London then look at what is near you: Ace Cafe Porsche nights, Goodwood (Revival and Festival of Greed), Beaulieu Autojumble, Brighton Speed Trials (oh yes), then tracks near there include Goodwood again, Brands GP, Silverstone GP, Donington GP, castle Combe (great in a 911).

Then you have the Chunnel not far away either, so Europe is well open for business: all the big events: Classic Le Mans, Nurburgring Oldtimer, Spa 6 hours, Classic Montecarlo rally and GPs, Pau Classic, Tour de Corse Historic, the Euro Porsche board meets, the list of events is endless. And as for European track days...
