Stock wiring between CD and Dist

I'm removing my stock CD unit and replacing it with a Mallory MSD unit. While looking over the stock wiring before removing it I have a question.

My car has the trigger wire coming from the Dist (points) running up to the hot side of the coil and then continuing over to the CD!!

I would have thought it would have been the other way. Points to the CD and back to the coil. What am I not seeing?

The shop manual just shows a wire from the points to the CD and a separate wire back to the coil.

Could this be the old way where the points actually switched the high voltage at the coil?
