Getting the bumpers on......looks decent on the test fit

Well things seem to be fitting better today...after wrestling w/the fit the past 2 days....today things seem to be going better.

Here are a few pics after having the bumpers sitting in position.

What bumpers are those and where did you get them?

Very nice and very similar to something I want to do to my SC. How can I view TRE's products (or are they yet another one of the shops that the So Cal guys have access to).

Shoot Dave at TRE a note. He'll be more than happy to email you any photos you need.

I have noticed nearly all cars with the Iroc front bumper have an uneven gap between the top of the bumper and the mating surface of the fender below the headlight. Is this just the nature of the molds? Is there an easy way to fix while fitting up? I have considered putting an Iroc style front bumper on mine, but most I have seen look kind cheasy due to the uneven gap.

Tim is the gap you are refering to the same one that I now notice on the photos of the grey car shown above? If so you are correct it looks odd.

I circled the gaps in these pics.

No offense intended KCPSG, I really like how your car looks and if I ever modify my GP white '79 SC, I want the Iroc look. The gap is probably the only thing keeping me on the fence.

Tim, doesnt the stock application have a filler piece that goes in there. I know my SC has filler pieces in the rear where the lower part meets the upper part stuck in there just below the tail lights.

I don't know, but on many of the cars with no filler that I have seen, the gap looks uneven.

Right. I am sure all of the gaps are uneven and in need of the filler piece. The filler piece I am talking about is almost like a factory supplied weather stripping and it adds a completed look.

Does the "Filler piece" you guys are talking about look like the front smile? See Jeff's pic above (silver 911) his IROC bumper looks to be molded differently on the fender edge to accommodate the front smile from the original setup. This is how I would like my car to look.

Jeff: Is your hood unlocked in that pic? Where did you get yours?

Best regards,

Michael

I didn't think you could use that "smile" piece with the new smooth bumper set ups no matter who the manufacture of the after market bumpers was. I guess unless you moded up holding bracket hardware that allowed for it I guess.

Easy enough to do no gaps. Just depends on how you bolt up the front and back bumper. The more attachment points the harder it is to get done but the cleaner the look. No gaps front or back on mine. But it took some additional effort on my part. You want 993 trim for the sides in front and back. It comes is a spools with more than enough to do front and back. Behind the fenders in the back .....I ended up using some Napa auto trim on the straight part of the rear bumper and it squared the rear away much better.

Done right, there is no smile. 2 piece 993 trim in front and 3 (2/993 one of somehting bigger) piece trim in back made from two different styles rubber trim.

+1

On mine I didn't use the trim pieces from the 993 I just added a couple extra fasteners and I am happy with the results. I have seen when people use the 993 trim pieces and it looks good as well. It is a pain to get the fasteners in on the rear bumper by the oil tank but it is worth the extra effort in my opinion.

Just in case:
My post isn't geared towards any of the cars on this thread.
