Unhappy Break in, then locked out!

I went to the back shed tonite to uncover the car and start her up for the first time this spring. I am having someone come look at possibly buying the car this week. I uncover the car to find someone entered it at some point over the winter and stole the momo steering wheel/Porsche horn button. Bummer. I live in a village and did not think I needed to lock the car. Wrong!!

The only nice thing about the evening is that there seems to be no other damage or missing pieces and that the car starts right up as soon as I hook up the battery and crank it over. No boost required. The car runs for a few minutes and then I turn it off to head in for the night. So, I then decided to lock the car. What a mistake that was. My keyring only has the ignition key on it and it doesn't seem to open the door lock on the drivers door. I go over to passenger side and it seems to turn that lock open but the spring is broken on the trigger. It was like that ever since I bought the car. Hummmm. I go back to the drivers door and try it again and manage to break the door trigger spring on that side as well. Argggh. If I wasn't so ticked off at the thief I might not have done that.

So, I ask the experts what do I do now? I cannot seem to find the valet keys. Perhaps they were in the glove box and the thief got them as well. How do I get in side without causing more damage? Call a locksmith?

Is this an omen to keep the car?

Thanks in advance for any help.

If you take the regisrtation down to your local Porsche dealer or it they know you, the chassis number is the only reference they need to order a new key.

Good luck.

Call Pop-a-lock or triple AAA.

Dan, he didn't break the key off in the lock. The lock mechanism itself broke, if I read Reg correctly.

Yes, I seem to have either left the valet key in the car or the rotten thief stole them too. I think they took the ownership papers/book too.

Thanks for the tips on the key from the dealer. Will they go all the way back to 1970?

I have a tow truck driver that I know who is coming over after hours to slim jim the door. Hopefully he can open it that way as both triggers on the door handles are broken. I pulled too hard in frustration last nite so let that be a lesson to the readers...go easy on the door handle triggers!

Reg:
Bummer; fortunately no other damage from the thief.
May be not just a broken spring.
Most likely the trigger itself has worn thru on the pivot pin.
Either way, that means dismantling the door panels, removing the handles from the inside and then.........................
You have a choice to buy new handles (Or used ones) or search for someone to make new triggers.
In my case, I was able to find a used door handle.
It's not so much the cost of the handles, it's the time/work to dismantle the panel and mechanism.

Good news. I found the valet key in the glove box. A friend who drives tow truck got into the car with a piece of plastic and dental floss! The trigger on the drivers side in fact is not broken. When the door is locked it feels like it is broken but when unlocked the trigger works.

Thanks again for the help.
