custom shock question

I am looking to adjust my rear shocks on my racing 911.

Using the shocks that are on it, I need to add a spacer to one end of the shock rod.

The question I have is, how much shock travel should I use for bump and how much for rebound.

Lets say the shock travel is 4", do I want to set up the static position of the shocks so that the rod is compressed 2", or about in the middle of the travel, or should I have it set up so that it compresses less staticly so that there is more travel under compression.

Thanks

Ed

Hi Ed - ideally you would want at least 2" in both bump and rebound for a track car.

Also most shocks are designed to work most effectively when displaced about the center of the piston travel.
