wheels up may be a problem

Hi all,
This may sound to be a stupid question but here goes.

I replaced the throttle plastic arm at the hand brake, and I dont know what made me notice but I thought the hand brake even if off felt like it was on.

I took everything apart again and all looks well. So I thought maybe I need one of the wheel hand brake mechanisms readjusted( really I wanted just to check to see if both rear wheels in neutral moved freely) and I lifted the car up.

This is the weird part,

the passenger side wheel in neutral moves freely back and forth, the drivers rear wheel, I cant move it around it seems like it is stuck on a tooth. It only moves back and forth only about +/- 2 or 3 in. in either direction but not around.

Is this normal!! or am i being stupid and the hand brake shoes need to be adjusted on that wheel only. It does not feel like that at all.

All I did was replace the plastic arm for the hand throttle and all looks good in that area.

Need help or call me an inexperienced do it yourselfer.

Any feed back greatly appreciated.

anyone!!! Really need advice.

As long as the car is in the air, why not take the rear rotor off, and have a look? If the shoes are really worn, you may have gone past the adjustment range on the left side, or you may have a hung wire on the right side. You never know until you take it apart and check for free movement of the cables and brakes. make sure that the balance bar under the brake lever is even, and not tilted to one side, which would make the cable lengths uneven. This would cause uneven brake application.

If the parking brake is working it will not move 2-3". Sounds like you have something else catching. Did you remove the CV joints? Maybe replace the bolts and have one that is too long? Was the car in gear? Do you have an LSD?

resolved wheel issue

Hi guys,
Thanks for your input, I removed the wheel, removed the brake disk and there was a bracket holding the hand brake cable that came lose. I repositioned the bracket and all is well.
Thanks for your inputs, saved a few bucks by just asking.
Hope to help others in the future.

Mark, glad you got it fixed. I hope you help others too.

Don't forget to check the bar under the brake lever. It connects the cable attached to the brake lever with the two cables going back to the parking brakes. It should be perpendicular to the car, meaning that the two cables are of equal length.
