Stainles steel welding with MIG
I have a small MIG welder. LIncoln Handy MIG. Is is rated output of 70 Amp witha Duty Cycle of 20%.
Is this enough to weld stainless steel? I would like to build a SS exhaust myself. So it will be welding 1/16 wall SS tube. Thanks in advance for your help.

I will let the experts like Ben @ M&K chime in for the full story, but I rather frequently weld stainless steel w/ my Hobart MIG welder, which is the smallest model Hobart makes that isn't for flux core wire. I use stainless wire but I haven't got the tri-mix gas, for my small projects the CO2/Argon mix still works, although perhaps less optimally.
Someday soon I'll get an argon tank for my Airco TIG set up and be done with this tomfoolery. |

Klaucke,
What type of CO2-Argon do you use?

but you will find tri mix will work better.. I would also suggest tig is better as the point of stainless is to prevent rust. if you use the wrong gas(hence 75-25) then it is much more likely to get carbide percipitation which will rust/crack.. so the correct gas would be suggested for the harsh enviroment of exhaust work
