Oil tank restoration porn

Waiting for a warm, dry weekend to tear into the body of my E restoration, I've been having fun with ancillary components. One thing that's been hammered into my brain on these older cars: if a part works and passes casual visual inspection, it probably won't for long. I'm not sure how long it would have taken the rust on my oil tank to go through, but my mantra at every turn is "glad I caught it now."

Fun with the blast cabinet

Gloss black engine paint... all engine tin, crossmember is getting the same.

thanks! Ended up not sealing it at all. after I blasted it, I blew it out, then washed it out with the hose, then sloshed 2 gallons of gas in it over 10+ times until the gas came out clean.

After that I washed it down with paint thinner, then brake cleaner, then acetone.

This blast cabinet borders on spiritual, cleaning away all those sins, starting over with a fresh surface. too bad the tank is pitted here and there, much like me.

When I restored mine and saw the cooper for the first time, I had visions of polishing the entire tank and clear coating it. Unfortunately, upon closer inspection, it was just a cooper wash. Great job, but too bad you have to now hide it under the quarter. Kinda like peeing in a dark suit. No one notices, but you do get that warm feeling. Good luck Allan
