Deck Lid Pins on a ducktail - is it possible?
 

Hi,

Still trying to find out if lid pins are possible on a ducktail. Any pictures or methods on how to do? It is on a 77 911. It seems like for them to fit in a place that doesn't look really stupid, there is no way to get the back nut on.

Do you want 2 or 4? If you're talking about the ones near the rear window, you have to weld a diagonal tab (my suggested method) across the corners at the gutter. In the back they just stick up from the decal bar.

Or use the rubber RS hold downs on the back.

May I ask why do you need the lid pins?
Most of us use the rubber latches.

Just the two Milt. The problem I have is that I can not figure out how to get the nuts on the back side. The spot where others have shown me would result with my pin plates being on the curve of where the duck starts to curve up and outward. Hopefully that makes sense.

My duck won't stay down. I have adjusted it every which way for a year. Saw the pins on someone's car and thought that looked ok. Why not. I think it would look good on the car. It's Mexico Blue with Carrera Scripts and no rocker panals. It's a C3 so it's the same body as the SC. If I get this to work, I will gut everything that was part of the mechanism.

David, I think the pins would look good on your car.

But if you don't want to drill any holes, I replaced the decklid on the 84 something like 10 times going back and forth, duck and standard, and got pretty good at getting everything lined up. Off to Hershey this weekend, but if you want to bring it up next, that would be good.

And I could put you to work on the E!!! :D

I had trouble getting my lid to stay shut once... turned out to be a combo of the hood pin not being the right length, dirty/clogged latch, and the latch wire adjusted too short. I removed the latch wd40-ed the hell out of it, reapplied some marine grease and it moved well. Fiddled with the pin and viola! Lid stayed closed...

An idea popped into my head last night. Since I am using straps for my door windows, why not do something similar with the rear lid using either pop buttons or velcro. It wouldn't take much force to hold the lid down since it's own weight works pretty good.

If I do it, I'll post pictures. How to do with out being cheap and tacky is the question.
