Quiet Monte
I have a '79 SC, 3.0, 9.5:1 J&Es, 964 cams, and SSIs with a Monte 2 in 2 out.
At start up it has been known to set off car alarms. Certainly turns heads and receives comments and compliments. A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to drive in my first DE. IF you have the opportunity I higly recommend it... My question is this. I was told my car was whisper quiet on the straight of way and on the track in general. This would have been at close to red line and shifting up. Anyone out there have any explanation for this? Thanks, Kevin

I don't have an answer but I agree with you. My 3.0 makes great sounds at low and moderate speeds, but on the track it seems to be quite.

I'm mot sure either of the dynamics of sound, but my '71 S was unbearable in the cabin until I installed baffles in the outlets of my former M & K "R" muffler. Yet, on the track, it was tame listening from the pit wall. One thing about most tracks is the wide open expanse. The lack of canyon walls, freeway walls and even dozens of cars in close proximity in traffic all serve to bounce the sound. You would think that the track environment would have the same or similar effect on cars running open headers, but you can hear them clearly even at some distance.
I have worked corners at the track and stock mufflered cars only seem to make tire and wind noise. |
