External Thermostat Screw Caps
Does anyone have a tool/technique for lossening and then re-torquing the two screw caps on the external thermostat. I'm desperately searching for a new/used screw cap for the bottom of the remote thermostat for a '76 911S now as Porsche NA has none and I buggered my in its removal.
I don't want a repeat when I re-install. Anyone? |

We made the below tool to loosen and tighten the cover. The curved bit is ground to fully fill and tightly fit in the the cover slot and is welded into a slot in the end of a 18" steel bar.
To loosen a cover it may be helpful to apply a reasonable amount of heat (electric hot air gun) to the cover and the housing and then let the assembly cool. Then try wrenching the cover loose keeping the bit well seated into the slot. Reassemble with an anti-seize compound on the threads. ![]() ![]() |

Boy, that's a great tool you've made!! You should market it. I'd pay $20 for it right about now. Thanks for the info.
