Removing striker plate capture nuts
Does anyone know if the plates that hold the striker plate capture nuts behind the b'pillar can be removed for servicing? The nuts in one of mine are frozen, and I think there may be some rust between the retaining plates and the lock post sheet metal. Please see pics below.

joe, the nut plate is captured by the outer plate which is spot welded. the spots can be drilled, remove, and the nut plate removed and the door jamb rust will appear :>). However in your pictures, undercoating could be your glue. insert a pair of bolts, knock them up and down laterally, and the nut plate will loosen, thence providing the striker adjustment neccesary for door alignment latching.

Thanks Damon
I was able to free up the adjustment as you suggested. There is some rust in there, though -- looks like time for some pre-emptive surgery. Joe |
