Ignition switch / starter question
About a week ago I went to start my 73.5 and altho it was making all the right noises, the engine did not kick over. When I turned the key back to the left to give it a break, the starter kept turning the engine over. I turned the key off and took it out but the car kept trying to start. In less than a minute the batteries were drained and my car was not going anywhere.
I disconnected and re-charged the batteries, fiddled with the ignition switch enough to conclude that I couldn't figure out how to get the thing out. Then plugged the ignition switch back together and the car started fine. Can I conclude that this is a bad ignition switch? If it is a starter issue, how would I check that? Thanks. Ken |
our starters should be torn down and cleaned. Your solenoid may be sticking. Clearances are real slim in there.
or the ignition sw not dis-engaging. I changed elec parts at 100k mi including the ign sw as preventive maintenance. |
Thanks Ronin. I'll start with the ignition switch and take it from there.
