The Basketcase Lives!

The "Basketcase", AKA Buford (My wife's Grandfather's middle name), my wife's inherited '78 911SC Targa, supposedly having had the engine "Totally gone through" and "It's a great little car...." is finally out of my shop after dropping the engine to replace a completely worn out clutch (complete with most of the friction material missing), rebuilding the frozen rear brake wheel cylinders and replacing the shift linkage bushings that had disintegrated.

Not a bad job, if I didn't have 4 little kids, a full time job, small ranch and a dozen other projects to finish.... The alignment of the clutch release fork on the TO pulley with a mirror and flashlight was a PITA, but it worked itself out with a couple of nudges and pushes. The engine/ transmission alignment gods smiled on me, on the second day of trying to mate everything up.

Lesson learned- It's either going to go in fairly easy or not. If it doesn't, stop, pull back and try again until it goes (Relatively) easy.

Anyway, it's been a bonding process and allowed me to see the 20 or 200 other little problems that will need fixing as well. At least it started up on the first try after the engine was replumbed.

Now, before I pat myself on the back for such a seamless job, I have a question for the crowd at large-

Anyone else have an oil tank top mounting stud broken off?

I noticed it after refilling the tank, so I'll have to fix it when I change the oil. I really don't want to screw with the hassle of a TIG or braze job, instead thinking of grinding & drilling the existing tab and using a bolt with the appropriate washers and nuts (On both sides of the bracket/ tab to achieve a reasonable support for the bolt) then through the body with more "T" washers.

Thoughts? Experience?
