targa top wear and tear

How much wear and tear does folding the targa top create? My top is somewhat worn and torn and I am planning on refurbishing it this spring. With a "new" top, how much am I going to increase the wear and tear by if I routinely fold up the top and put it in the boot, as I normally do?

I could put the top unfolded in my garage, or on my deck, but then I would not have it if the weather turned, or I wanted to secure the car at my destination. Obviously it's very convenient to fold it up and take it along and the top was meant for exactly that. But am I taking years off the top's life by doing this several times a week?

Tim,
Do a search on "targa top" here as this has been covered many times and there are many, many opinions and methods to keep the top looking good. I fold my top since it won't fit in the trunk unfolded. Mine is in great shape (I store it indoors during the cold months) and I use Vinylex on it to keep the vinyl supple.

You can store it unfolded behind the seats. If you have tinted front windows, like I do, you may want to wrap the edges so they do not scratch. I tried pulling the top from behind me and I now have a nice scratch in the passenger window tint
