engine mounts--wevo vs. sport
I figure that my 20 year old engine mounts are tired. What is the recommendation: wevo semi-solid mounts or the OEM sport mounts that were used on Turbos and cabs?
If it makes any difference, I'm planning on doing the wevo tranny mounts for the G50 when they're ready, given that there is really no other alternative. Thanks.

I use the sport mounts on both my engine and tranny and very happy with them. I didn't notice any additional vibration or noise after I installed them.

installed the wevo engine mts. and patrick moto's tranny mts.(wevo wasnt done and in production w/theirs).
shifted wayyyyyyyyy better, no noise, no vibration. drove 367 miles to calif. mtr. speedway, ran (5)- balls to the walls sessions at mega mach speed in 5th gear into banked turns 1 and 2 and the rest of the 2.8 mile course and noticed nothing but smooth shifts unless i boffoed a 5th to 2nd shift when faced w/the sheer concrete wall of certain voodoo DOOM! believe me you will get damn good at 5th to 2nd after the 1st session! and then i drove 367 miles back to phx! no trailer. thats confidence in yer vehicle! when you see the condition of yer 20 yr old mts, youll ask yourself why didnt you change them out sooner! |

This spring, I replaced my extremely worn trans mounts w/new sports and figured while I was at it, replaced my engine mounts w/new Wevos. The wevos have been given such rave reviews I figured I couldn't go wrong. I also expected to feel some discernible difference. The result? I do think there was a difference in throttle response (more crisp?) but to be honest I can't be absolutely sure. It could be my brain just trying to convince me. The increased noise was HUGE. I consider myself to be fairly tolerant of rugged driving conditions. I have stiff t-bars, I removed my radio, I have Recaro PP (fixed back seats w/taller sides), my car is a '74 and not cushy at all which I love. I also drive it a lot. It's a 5 hr. drive to the track for me and I don't trailer it. After installing the Wevo mounts, I was convinced my muffler had rusted through. The increased vibration and engine noise was more than I could tolerate and I ended up swapping back in the old stock rubber engine mounts. Maybe I'm more wuss than I thought? I know anything Wevo is highly regarded on this forum - I've still got them and do plan to try them again sometime, but for now, the stock work better for me.
My 2 cents for what it's worth (not much). Tom

Wevo motor mounts........new sport trans mounts.
I noticed a little bit of noise but it was a good noise......I could just "feel" the engine RPM's a little bit more

I had stock mounts in my '74 before I switched to the Wevos... Yes, there is more vibration now, but I don't find the effect either too pronounced or distracting, really.
Of course, holding a normal conversation in my car while I am driving regularly is kind of impossible and it's not quite what I would call the "comfort model" But if you're interested in Wevo parts, I doubt you want to be heading in that direction, anyway. ![]()

Just get some new stock ones for a street car.

For street use, I found the sport mounts to be fine. I changed over to the WEVO mounts when I started using my car exclusively for the track and I started having problems shifting due to excessive movement of the engine/transmissio with the sport mounts.
