Need help with oil gauge

I have a weird problem with my oil pressure gauge besides it just not working. The car is 1990 C4. I have been testing for continuity on all the leads to and from the gauge with a fluke meter thinking there was a break in the wire somewhere. But what I found is once I plug the gauge to the harness plug in the dash the signal wire shorts to a dead ground. I disconnect the harness plug at the gauge and the ground short disapears. I'm thinking internal gauge problem. I was just wondering if anyone has experienced this problem. I would hate to buy a new gauge if this is normal. The really weird thing is the oil temp also does not work, and the oil level gauge does not work I even replaced the oil level sender, what the heck is going on? Any sort of help would be greatly appreciated
