To smoke or not to smoke?

Any help would be appreciated. My 3.2 has a very erratic idle, up and down. Sometimes it will smoke like a ..and other times it doesn't. It almost allows smokes on start up, even though the engine has less then 10,000 miles on it. I can be going down the road and lots of smoke. Minutes later nothing? Help!!

Hi

What car ?
Is your idle always erratic, I mean when cold and when warmed up ?

Hi

Blue smoke can mean valve seat to be reworked.
Idle always erratic can also mean some studs broken.

Doesn't sound good at all :-(

I am not sure of the year, but I did check the oil the other day and I was at the bottom of the dip stick. After I added a quart it seemed to smoke more. Are all dip sticks the same, or could I have one that's the wrong length?

There is your problem. Over filled with oil.
You need to check it when the engine is at operating temp. On level ground. fill to between the two marks on the stick.
