"If I were a rich man,
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum..." And it's even in the greatest color ever produced! I'm not absolutely sure, but I think the following two pictures are of the same car during and after the race; it's either this one, or this is from 1968. The '67 car raced with a Sportomatic transmission, so in that regard, the car for sale isn't absolutely original. EDIT: here are the links, as it was naughty to hotlink! http://www.pbase.com/911r/image/70582423 http://www.pbase.com/911r/image/70582223

Just to correct a couple of points previously made:
The car for sale is one of the 4 prototypes (the third) - there were then a further 20 'production' 911R's made. This car is indeed the Marathon de la Route winner - it raced in many different guises during its heyday & the current owner decided to restore it to a spec where a manual transmission was installed. The car was (sympathetically) restored from the ground up (after a lot of research & discussions with the Factory) - I was priveledged enough to witness the restoration at close hand & even supplied a few of the parts used in the build. A truly unique car - but will require a very special buyer to part with that sort of money...

It's not out of reach. The ad says they'll finance.
I figure... The currency exchange is 1.99300 USD = 1.00 GBP. Price of the car = $1,195,800 8% Washington sales tax = $258,293. Total price = $1,291,464 20% down = $258,293 Total financed = $1,033,171 At 6%, monthly payment = $6,194 for 360 months I just ran that by my wife and the car is still available.

Rich! You made my otherwise innocent dessert of Oreo's and milk extremely dangerous and possibly expensive after showering my keyboard with the milk expelled through my nose.

In the late Sixties, I went out to SoCal with my college roomate who lived in Hawthorne. When reading the classifieds one day, a saw an ad. The seller had 3 911R's that were selling for $8000/each. At the time, I was driving a TR4A and had never heard of a 911R.

That particular 911 R is possibly the ultimate 911.
Sure, there's no other 911 that possesses the charisma, presence and visceral thrills of a '73 RSR, but a '73 RSR is 100kg heavier, and 911s with wide footprints are not what you would call finesse cars. They have to be manhandled, and from experience, vintage 911s are more enjoyable to drive if you don't need to assert your authority.

Rich: You can shave a few bucks off that estimate. I'm sure the State of WA will believe you if you tell them you only paid $90K for it..........

Not that I have the means to buy this car, or a car like it for that matter. But, you would sure need to do your homework to be sure, 100% sure, it was the real deal. I would love to own one, given the disposable income, but I would spend countless hours verifiying its authenticity.
There have been a few fakes sold as the real deal over the years to unsuspecting buyers, even from reputable shops. Not saying this car is not the real deal, in fact it probably is the real thing, but history on these is scarce, buyer beware..... Cheers

It's a rolling piece of racing history. If I were Seinfeld, Gates, or some other gazillionaire/Porsche enthusiast I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. Value is relative to the wallet.

This is about as perfect of a "drift" as I've ever seen! Who says that SWB 911s are oversteering, evil handling cars?!!!
Take that Bobby Allison!
