have you checked out your shifter and shift coupler bushings? usually the culprits you describe..

You might take a look at this shifter.http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/ksearch/PEL_search.cgi?command=show_part_page&please_wait=N&make=POR&model=911E§ion=Tshift&page=3&bookmark=16&part_number=JWST-RS2-911
I just installed this shifter a couple months ago on a car with 95k on it and it shifts like a different car. You can also take a look at the Wevo they also sell here. I took it the track a couple weeks ago and it was flawless. I wish I would have done this sooner.

A transmission fluid change with Swepco 201 is a good idea, in addition to the above mentioned checks on bushings and coupler. My 915 shifts flawlessly, but not like a honda, more like a racecar.

having owned a '74 with a pretty nice 915 gearbox, the shifting smoothness is night and day between it and a g50. i agree with jeffrey, the 915 feels like a racecar's gearbox, but it gets the job done.

How many miles on the box?
I had done all the little fixes yet it took a rebuild with new synchros to really get things nice again, especially dropping it into second gear without hamfisting the thing...

All I had to do was replace the factory short shift, all the linkage bushings, the shift coupler and rebuild 1st and 2nd gear synchros. Shifts like it should now!
Now if I can just get it to stop nicking R on the 5-4 downshift!!

Dentist,
I had the same problem, with a little trial and error adjustments on the coupling between the back seats i was able to adjust away the nick r , now i can go to 4 without any problems... |
