just closed up 915 after rebuild: should gears seem stiff
just closed up 915 after rebuild: should gears seem stiff
replaced 1-2 and 3-4 sliders, 2cd dog teeth, and 1-2-3-synchros. I closed up box, adjusted shift forks, now bench shifting appears a bit stiff. I think this may be normal as there is no Swepco lube in tranny. It goes thru all 6 gears (5 + rev), but is not easy. I did not do a compare with original before I took it apart. I guess I'm looking for moral support before I mate it to engine and install. |
Mine was more difficult after replacing the same stuff last year. New parts with closer tolerances and fresh friction surfaces, coupled with no swepco, should make it tougher to bench shift. I think its normal.

Pretty normal. Might be stiff for first coupla hundred miles...

When I replaced the hubs, synchros and slider for 1 and 2, I noticed these gears were a bit harder to engage on the bench than than the gears I had not touched. This makes sense as the synchro rings on the other gears will be more worn and allow the slider to pass over them more easily. I would think in your case 5th should snap in just a bit easier than the others as you haven't done anything to it. It will be easier still once you have lube on them and you're using the leverage of your shifter rather than shifting by hand on the selector rod.

OK issue closed till in car. Yes 5th-rev are a bit easier.
Thanks for the encouragement |
