Clicking noise
 

I had a great drive today from central Jersey to Brooklyn, NY.
All went well except for a faint clicking noise emanating from the driver's side rear wheel.

Only heard when close to a barrier that makes the sound bounce back. No grinding or vibrations. Sounds like wheel bearings.

Is this normal or am I looking at replacement soon?

If its centralized to one side of the car it is probably loose valves. When were the valves adjusted last?

A long time. I've had the car 2 years now and haven't done it. No problem with acceleration or pinging. It sounds like a possible culprit though.

If its been 2 years then the valves should be adjusted. Its the first thing that I would check.

I adjust mine using the backside method outlined in the Pelican Tech articles. After 2 times of doing it I can adjust them in about 3-4 hours including the hour + it takes me to get everything out and back in just to reach the valves.

sounds like cv's or wheel bearings.

I was assuming this was with car stationary next to wall is this while in motion?

A stone stuck in the tyre tread

I had something like this once on my 72 targa. It turned out it was the e-brake cable rubbing on the back of the wheel. The mount broke so I had to use some wire to hold it in place. Possible?

Worn sway bar bushing...

My 84 Carrera track car is doing the same thing. Is not related to engine speed. (if I push in the clutch at speed the clicking frequency does not change) Mine is definitely coming from the driver side rear also.

Before doing anything expensive, check your tires for stones in the tread or some metallic object embedded in the tire. I've had the same symptoms numerous times and it has always been either a stone in the tread or a nail with its head still intact. Even with a nail embedded in the tire, you may not loose any air (at least for a while, so check it soon).

Important question - Does the speed of the clicking change in relation to wheel speed or engine speed?
