Stud removal ! HELP !

Hi guys/gals,

It's been a while since I've been in here. School/family/ work, you know the drill. Anyways, after 5 sets of carbs, I learned my lesson and bought PMO's. Yeah, it hurt to pay that bill.. Anyways, I am installing the insulator blocksm which requires r/r of the intak manifold studs. 10 out of 12 nearly fell out. The last two, on cylinder number one are stuck. I soaked them in Pb for a week, tapped them with a hammer 100 times. Tried the double nut again today, and no-go. I am actually stretching/deforming the threads ont he stud. I even used a butterfly impact wrench for 10 minutes hoping to crack the death-grip on the threads.

What's next? Butane torch? Vice-grips? Drill em out?

So close to having a running car, yet so far away.

MIchael

I'd try heat. Metals will expand and contract at different rates.

Get your double nut setup all ready to go then heat the head around the stud for a minute or so,
try to move fast after the heat is removed, the head will dissipate the heat quickly.
I'll bet it breaks loose.

Good Luck

These do the job, when used with an impact wrench...$pendy for the full set, but handy if you work with studs...

Mapp or hotter. Butane / Propane won't cut it.

This did the trick in 3 seconds and for $3 on sale. This is the first tool from Harbor Fright that I have ever been 100% satisfied with. FINALLY, something in that shop did something right.

thanx
