Fuel pumps and CD boxes
Bosch CD box, silver (yes, a Brazilian but working just fine) Bosch coil, original fuel pump.
The Tech (I'm a mechanical neophyte, I can barely change oil...) was checking out a full-throttle misfire I mentioned. (Fuel filter is ok by the way, car doesn't sit more than 3 days at a time, I use not only Shell 93 but Techron about every 5k miles). He notices that a volume test of the fuel pump indicates it's having trouble pushing the right volume of fuel. He puts in a new pump. Car runs like crap. Puts in a working Permatune box (still silver Bosch coil) and with the new fuel pump the car runs like a scalded dog... Best he said it has ever felt to him. any ideas from you experts ? thanks

I had a similar problem about 3 years ago. I replaced the Bosch CDI with an MSD6A unit and installed new Magnecor wires. All running issues disappeared once the new hardware was installed. Apparently the Bosch CDI units can deteriorate without complete and immediate failure. Your problem was most likely being caused by the old Bosch CDI. Having a new fuel pump is not a bad thing, especially if the original pump was on the car. Be certain to search the BB for threads on the Permatune units. They seem to have some "issues" of their own!
