SC leaking a sticky substance
 

I just noticed a couple drops of a sticky substance on the garage floor under my SC--toward the center front of the engine--just forward of the rear tires toward the front of the car.
I looked underneath with a flashlight, and can see in the center a small 1/4"? threaded tube with a hexag? nut attached that is sticky wet. Not dripping. Kind of molasses-like. Not oil. Very sticky. I could reach it from the passenger side just forward of the rear tire in the center.

Anybody know what it could be? Never a dull moment with these cars. Thanks.

tranny fluid? If so, it will smell horrible

doesn't seem to smell. just very viscous and sticky.

CV Joint Grease? Check your axles

Gasoline mixed with undercoating = very sticky substance. I'm betting you have a small fuel leak.

Is it kind of brownish?

no gas smell at all. even on my fingers.

i'm going with the CV grease. I had a mysterious little dollup of something on the floor one day. My zip tie had slipped off my inner CV boot and grease had dripped out. But the stuff is so thick it dripped like three times in 6 months. It left an ever so small pile of grease on the floor. At first I thought it might have been mouse/bird crap or something like that. i think it was also just slightly forward of the wheels because the half shafts actually travel forward between the wheel and the tranny...so the inboard CV joints are forward of the wheel center line.

Yeah--I would never had noticed it, except I moved my car out of the garage to wash it, and then saw a few drops on the floor when I was sweeping up some leaves. Real viscous and sticky.
Looked under the car when I reparked it and found the greasy wet tubing connection. sticky to the touch. It's probably more fluid when the car is hot, which explains the drip.
I know it isn't oil. Been there. Done that.:)

CV joint grease would be my guess. When it comes in contact with a small amount of moisture it can become almost paste like. I tried to wash a small amount of my hand one time in the sink.

Would seem to be a minor problem.

Now that the hot weather has arrived, and the temp gauge has crept up over 200F, my oil leak has reappeared on the left side of the engine (looking from the rear). A small splash coming down my driveway at noon. Doesn't leak in the winter when the oil temp says around 180F, and doesn't leak in the garage.

I have the trombone type oil cooler--and wonder if changing to the radiator type would be enough extra cooling to stop the oil leak. Anybody know the cost for a radiator cooler? Is it worth it?
