A/C compressor mount
 

Hi. Is there any way to remove the platform that the AC compressor sits on? im trying to install a new heater hose and ive got the compressor off but I can not get the hose connected with the mounting platform in the way. thanks alot

It's bolted to the engine and has a sneaky hidden allen that is accessed from the back.
You may have to remove the muffler to get at a couple of bolts.

I don't know if the SC is like my Carrera, but if so, Ned is correct. You either need to remove the muffler since the bolt(s) do not have enough clearance to back out completely, or you can cut through the bolt (from below) after you've unscrewed it a bit. Hope this helps.

I did this sometime ago, but I did remove that platform from the engine bay; without removing the muffler. I've got an '81 SC so I believe it should be similar. The hidden nuts and bolt or bolts are accessed from the back/underneath the platform. Once you remove the compressor, take a flashlight and find it or them. I believe that you may need a socket and an extension to get to some. Flash the light from the back/ side and underneath the plate. You should be able to see mounting point(s). Sorry, about the vague details but it's been awhile. I did replace the hose that you are referring to. It gets a little pinched going under the platform. Hope this helps.

Thank you. I saw the bolts but couldnt reach them and seemed like if I could reach them, I wouldnt have space to ratchet them loose. So, with pain and effort and time, i managed to get the hose within about 1/2 inch of the other hose coming from the right heat exchanger and simply closed the gap with aluminum foil insulation tape. It came out perfect. That foil tape is like a miracle for some things.

Ill have to work on the platform some other year since I dont even have my A/C system drained yet.

----with the compressor off and hose out, i managed to notice what looked like part of a carrera chain tensioner rubbing or wedged up against the platform and a very slight bit of corrosion forming where the small metal tube touched the platform. this seems concerning to me but im not even sure if this metal tube is part of the tensioner. i think it is?
