Shipping 911 parts...Where do you guys go?

I had a bad experience at Office Depot yesterday. I shipped out a Dash to a pelican, and because it was too tall, (only weighed 5 lbs), the shipping was the same price as I sold it for. Any body have any tricks for shipping oversized or over weight parts? I'd like to stay with Fed Ex or UPS to make sure people get the parts in a timly fashion, but for oversized stuff, I need to try something different.

Find a friendly pal locally with a UPS account. Office Despot, UPS store et.al mark up their costs 2-2.5 percent.

USPS priority, they will take a larger package before oversize kicks in. They also track with priority.

UPS account

Yeah I'm working on getting my own UPS account. I wish there was a UPS store around, all over in Dallas. I'll have to check out the post office, I thought they'd be more expensive, but if oversize doesn't kick in until later...I'm in. Thanks guys.

I have had great luck with DHL for oversized items. (Front valance from KY to AZ for $43) Also have used Greyhound but the limited number of terminals that will accept packages causes some problems. I look at both of these options before I go UPS, FedEX, etc.

1. Greyhound is cheap - but buyer has to go to bus station.

2. FedEx has different size req.s than UPS & are often cheaper for Gnd shipping. If small, USPS is cheaper still. FedEx will set up an acct. based on a personal credit card. I don't use FedEx anymore.

3. You can try DHL, but I found them no cheaper, & they hire or outsource "scabs" to keep their costs down. If you run a local business, you are shooting yourself in the foot by not supporting people that work locally - they won't be able to buy your own products.

I go to Fedex-Kinkos for Fedex Ground. I recently sent a stock sway bar across the country and shipping was in the $10-15 range.

I've used Greyhound to ship oversized items, very reasonable, and there's a terminal just a couple of blocks from where I work

I like Fedex...My last UPS pkg looked as if it had been kicked from its origin. If you box and label yourself, and take to a Fedex shipping location, you will save $$

I just opened up a corporate account with fed ex. they charge you a misc. fee everytime you ship; which is higher if you dont use it that much, but they also have a 15% discount going on right now which more than covers it. I got my whole engine (parted out) from Raleigh, NC to Reno, Nevada for only $200 when all was said and done
