all sorts of things that can be done...
valve adjust, hydraulic chain upgrade, tranny seals, motor mounts, check for broken headstuds, change oil return tubes how much budget do you have? if you do a search for "while the engine is out" you'll find plenty of ways to break the bank, and then some then there are the specifics for certain types of 911 engine.. what do you have??

You didn't say which enging you're working on. If it's an SC, then I'd change the oil pressure warning light sensor, thermostat o ring, and crankcase breather gasket. All cheap parts.
Then I'd have a beer, and put the engine back in. |

Buy a new engine firewall pad if yours is not in perfect condition. They are a bear to replace with the engine in the car and are not too expensive.
Spend a few bucks and steam clean the engine compartment and detail it while the engine is out.

The reason I mentioned SC is that the oil thermostat et al are impossible to replace with the engine in the car. Basically you do stuff like the engine sound pad that Joe mentioned that are impossible to do with the engine still in.
I wouldn't create additional work though, just stuff that you know you have to do later when the engine is out. |

Rear shock replacement, replace heater hoses, all vacuum hoses and flexible fuel lines, clamps, etc... are cheap and easy with the engine out.

You can replace the seal without dropping the engine. Support the HE's, lower the engine and remove the engine mount and cross brace. This would give you good access to the area of concern.

I have a 2.7 also. My upper oil pressure sending unit was leaking. so I dropped the engine. I did the oil breather and thermostat gaskets while I was there. The sending unit is a $6.95 part and should be changed if you have the engine out.
I did a valve adjust while it was out, it makes it so easy. New spark plugs too. I had already installed carrera tensioners when I did the rebuild, but if you don't have them it's a top priority upgrade.
