911 front end squeak.

Hi to all, is there anyone who can tell me if a broken torsion bar on the front of my 911 2.7 1976 would make a squeaking sound, i,ve had this noise driving me crazy for sometime , which when it wasn,t so loud ,i thougt it was the drivers seat , but now it,s got louder it is coming from somewhere under the car at the front, but i can,t pinpoint it, has anyone had this same noise and found a broken bar, also the car does handle strange ,but i put that down to the turbo tie rods i,ve fitted at first, car does seem to bounce more now in corners. there is no difference in ride height from side to side, just this noise and bounce. is this a broken bar ,shocks or something else....help.......................

If your torsion bar was broken, the side of your car would drop and compress. Remember the torsion bar is essentially the spring for that corner and the shock would not hold the car height in place. Measure your corners and if they are somewhat similar in height, your bar is probably not broken. Not only that but driving the car would be a REAL problem.
Your squeek could be the torsion bar rubbing inside the a-arm or it could be sway bar bushings or a-arm bushings.
Do a search for front end squeek and you should find a number of ways to check/isolate which one might be the problem.

Push down real hard on the front corners to see if the struts are getting weak since you mention bounce.
Frequently, squeeks come from the rubber bushings in the A-arm; not harmful, just annoying.
If the car handles strange after turbo tierods were installed, a 4-wheel alignment is in order unless you don't care about a weird tire-wear.

thanks both, i guested that the car would drop if bar broken ,but wasn,t sure, i,ve had a four wheel alignment done and that,s ok, so i,ll check shocks and bushes, just didn,t want to start to take apart if no need, many thanks for your help.. Rik...

see if you can isolate the squeek to righ/left or both sides. Get some spray lube and do one thing at a time. Spray the a-arm bushings and rock the car. Then spray the sway bar bushings and rock the car. If you still squeek, it might be the torsion bar rubbing inside the a-arm.
