For those that really want answers...
Sorry but this is a bit of a rant. If you are posting a problem with your car and you really want to get help there a few requirements to actually get responses.
1. First and foremost give info about the car i.e. year, make, etc. 2. If the car has had a different engine or other mods give that as well. 3. What have you done to it so far. If you changed things you should tell about it. It may make a big difference in solving the problem. 4. I am not one of those folks that screams use the search button everytime someone posts the same old questions but it really does answer a lot of simple questions. It just seems that I keep reading posts that say something like " Well I get this miss at 3500 rpms" or what ever and they give no other input at all. If someone needs to beg you for info you probably won't get much help. Okay I am done ranting. Back to your normal schedule. |
And.....put the subject of your request/info in your thread title.
Something you didn't do. |
No I didn't so that maybe a few folks might look at it that otherwise pass on it.:D
|
and list your location ( usually someone close that is willing to drop in and help , or lend a tool)
|
Man, here I was thinking that I was going to find out what the hell is going on on "Lost"!
(Is Locke really dead? Who is Jacob? Did they really find the plane on the bottom of the ocean? And, and and?) |
Jake,
The girl that ejected from the helicopter......is Sanjaya from American Idol! |
Those and many other pressing questions will be answered if you just give the right info.:D
I am afraid this one is heading OT any moment. Not to pick on this guy but here is a classic example of what I mean. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/346424-idle-question.html He gives no clue what car, year etc. and so it goes. No one has replied because they don't want to interrogate the guy just to answer the question. Oh well. It is Monday and I guess I am just being cranky so there you go.SmileWavy |

Locke is not dead .. |
Every time someone joins Pelican, the above should go out in the 'Welcome' message they get.
|
Yes, PLEASE put a useful subject line on your post. I always imagine the folks who say, "Did you do a search ?" are the same ones who post subjects like: "A Couple Questions" or "Need Help".

Now and then, we all do a teaser title. But, we should get the subject in there somewhere. |
Why do so many people feel the need to keep their location a secret? Are Pelicans stalking the BB users?
|
+ on all points,...good-housekeeping reminders...
Searching has become a powerful tool when used,..exhaust first,..then ask the group,....reading like a nice book, with sequential plot,....some sequencing, pics, whatever is needed.... ..........we all could use some reminders every so often,,, All of you guys are great sources of information/experience for many of us who don't wrench a lot....certainly, in my case, igniting a huge desire to learn as much as possible (short of changing careers!) Jester911, you've oiled the Pelican engine for "better performance"!!!! THANKS and best, |

Vague subjects/titles drive me nuts (and waste my time). |
Oh yes and please post the resolution to your problem. Its kinda nice to know what works, what doesn't and who doesn't know what they are talking about..myself included.
|
Something else that would be nice and that Grady often mentions is to summarize the older threads you searched up in your thread or post.
This makes it easier for the next person and is a nice way to pay back & acknowledge all the people who have put their time into the bbs. |

Please note that all rules are off if you are a young female who knows nothing about p-cars.
If that's the case then you get 10,000 responses! |
