Zoanas
Is the reinforcement piece over the front mounts, circled, part of the replacement pan or an extra piece that needs to be ordered? If it is an extra piece what is it called? Thanks http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1179240378.jpg |
I'm wondering how the torsion bars were used to line up the pickup points.
Did you measure diagonally to confirm that the points were square? I'm just wondering how something that looks so difficult ended up being relatively straightforward. Also, Zoanas, what was the precipitating event that caused the floorpan to rip away? Were you hopefully on a track, or were you on the street? Pothole? Looks like victory snatched from the jaws of defeat in any case. |
The torsion bars were mounted in the control arms, and bolted to the mount points on the new suspension pan, which lined them up for tacking. I did measure an "X" from the forward t-bar mount holes to a point at the edge near the crossmember before and after to ease my mind.
The precipitating event occured on the freeway enroute to the track. The car was tied down on the trailer using a chain at the front that was connected to the Rennline tow hooks that bolt to the existing torsion bar mounts. When the trailer was rear-ended, it moved forward, while the car didn't, ripping the t-bar mounts as shown in the first pics. It turned out to be blessing in disguise, because it revealed significant rust that I would have otherwise discovered at speed on the track. The circled piece is indeed an extra part that must be ordered. They are reinforcements for the t-bar mounts, and have to be welded in place. |
