Quit or Resume Parts Production
I have learned from a Porsche dealer that Porsche AG is in the process of looking into resuming the production of parts for the older cars. But only if it would be cost effective.
As it is, most all of the parts for the older cars are no longer in production and the current inventory is all there is. Such as sheet metal. How many of you would like to see Porsche AG continue production of parts for the older cars, or even step up production? |

I would go so far as to suggest that Porsche is more or less obligated to remanufacture/resume production of their mainline cars and parts.
The Porsche "mystique" is, if nothing else, built by the numerous cars over the years that are driving around. I think Porsche ought to contribute their part of keeping those cars on the road by keeping the parts flow going and pricing them competitively....maybe not even make their normal obscene profit from them. My local dealer is great, I think they do what they can to find parts when i need them, but they can't get what isn't available.... Dennis

This has been rumored for a couple years, and fueled by the recent survey PCNA conducted. Myself, I'd be very happy to see additional production of existing 'good' part numbers and new production of a great many of the 'dead' part numbers. I grit my teeth for 24 hours every time I put in a resto-parts order until I hear back about parts status. In-stock? Fantastic! Will have it in a week? Great! 2-3 weeks? I can always work on something else till then. 4 months, if you're lucky? OK, keep me updated. Out of production? None left, anywhere? That's the worst news...
On the other hand, quality has to be maintained - it sounds like the stash of recent-production dashes that Stoddard and Einmalig and some others have been doling out is inconsistent at best. We can't be spending $1k+ for dealer parts and having fitment issues.

Porsche has no obligation to supply us with anything. They only have an obligation to make money for the shareholders.
GM makes money on the liscensing of restoration parts. They probably make much more that way than if they actually made the parts. The problem is that most of the GM authorized parts are really crap. I prefer real Porsche parts - but the price is going to be unreal. Porsche has no shame when it comes to pricing. How the hell do you think they got all that money to buy VW. Richard |

I guess I see the world differently......rapacious focus on money only is not the only way to operate. I think companies can see more broadly than that, but not sure of Porsche will. Go back over the history of Porsche and you will see some balance that I think is lost now.
..personally that is why I detest MBA's and pretty well refuse to hire any....between them and the stock market quants/investment bankers we are pretty well on the high road to hell..... ...but you are likely right. Porsche will not do the right thing..... Dennis

- These are the same little nubbins that killed GM. Roger Smith being the largest of the little nubbins...

Some time ago Porsche had their Vintage Parts Program (is it still active?)
Anyway some of the items were in the nose bleed area of pricing. It just did not make any sense as a few days before the program , those same available parts were much less money Yes, they are in business to make a profit, and low production volume means higher prices. IF they get to making pieces again, I certainly hope it is not with the same lack of originality they displayed on certain parts (like the dash being made on a later armature with incorrect foaming and stud placement) Sure the new production parts may be better than original, but we can tell and so can the purists when it comes time to judge a car

Keep the comments and votes coming. With enough inputs from the end user, maybe PAG will see the light.

Is this any different from British Motor Heritage's new MGB and Midget bodies? If the mark up isn't too high, it sounds like agood idea especially for 914 drivers.
