				Race Car / Trailer Insurance

Trying to get a clear understanding form my insurance guy about my coverage. He can't commit to covering my trailer or race car from theft or fire or anything other than driving it.

Anyone know for sure what kind of coverage they have on their cars? TIA, John

From what I recall by insuring the trailer you are mainly covering theft and damage while the trailer is not in motion. Whenever the trailer is connected it and it's contents are covered by the policy of the tow vehicle.

My car has theft/fire...no liability or collision because I don't drive it on the street. This is a basic street policy but "suspended" like most people do in the winter. It's protected should anything happen while it's sitting in the garage and once it goes on the trailer it's covered by the tow vehicle. I don't have any coverage for on-track, paddock, etc.

				More Info

So my current insurer, Allstate, gave me this information.

Trailer is covered while attached to my vehicle only if I give them the VIN and have it added to my policy. It would only cover the trailer and not the contents. Car is not covered at all under my homeowners policy. If my house gets robbed or burns down I get nothing for the car. Allstate will not cover anything listed as a race car. If the car is titled and registered it could sneak under the radar as a collector car, but it becomes a very gray area. Race car coverage, off-track, is available from companies like Heacock for a couple hundred bucks per year. However, they only cover it while it is in an enclosed permanent garage. If you store it in the trailer or off-site it could be a problem. So....how do you get coverage for a race car? I want it covered for fire and theft while at home, in the trailer someplace or while on the road. John
