The new stop with the re-enforcement kit is around $60.00. It only gets worse over time and it is a DIY unless some welding is required.

Do these doors actually have stop points? Mine seem to open all the way if you let them go. Kind of a hassle when your parked close to a car and you have to hold the door from swinging open.

I just had my driver's side door check replaced by a body shop. There is a noticeable difference. It stops at about 1/4 open, just enough to slip in, then again at about 3/4 open. I purchased a kit for the passenger side and will be doing that one myself.

Door Stopper....

85Carrera,

If you just need one door stopper, I got an extra one. This is new and never installed for $25. Send reply to atd911@hotmail.com.
Thanks.

Crosby50,
What part did the body shop use?
What kit did you get?...Pelican's door stay kit (911-531-957-00-M260) or the reinforcement kit (PEL-PP911167) or both?
Both my doors swing wide!
Thanks

I'm not certain what the body shop ordered. On the other door, I ordered Pelican's door stay kit. I don't think you need the reinforcement kit unless your door's sheetmetal has been compromised by repeated over-swings.

My driverīs door has flied open since I bought it 2 1/2 years ago. Pretty annoying. The remedy seems out of my DIY league though, so I suppose Iīll live with it. Carefully holding the damn door every time I open it..

Very easy repair. I, a newbie, did it with minimal damage

This repair came up on my PPI & I'm thinking of attempting it myself since a honked-up job won't leave me stranded in the centerlanes of I-35. Although I have two degrees in engineering (albeit both civil...we build things w/ bulldozers), I'm not real mechanically inclined & my definition of DIY likely does not match anyone elses. I've heard horror stories about reinstalling door panels & I don't do welding. Is this truly a newbie DIY??? If anyone can direct me to details regarding the repair so I can judge based on my first-hand knowledge of my abilities, that would be welcomed.

Thanks,

My door was OK and only the stop was broken. Make sure that you tie a piece of dental floss to the bits you are playing with so you don't lose it in the door. No panels had to come off.

The only hard part I found was in getting the damn pin holding the stay to the car door to come out, and putting in the new one. Tight fit and not much room to swing a hammer. Tape the area to protect it from scratches (you can't see it anyway but I was picky).

I just did both of mine on a '72 and would like to add a suggestion I found somewhere else on this board. Go to the local bolt specialty store and pick up some M6 Allen head bolts about 25mm long. They make installation A LOT easier!
