cruise control clutch switch position

Pulled the pedal cluster on my 80SC for a rebuild. Had the console out for new AC switches so decided to take a look in the tunnel. Clutch switch and bracket were wired up but sat far back in the tunnel not making any contact with the clutch lever. Question: On which side of the clutch lever does the arm on the switch sit against and make contact? Front (towards firewall) or back (towards engine)?

IIRC, back.

O.K. the switch arm rests against the back of the clutch lever. Does it just touch the arm or is it adjusted so that the switch arm is pre-loaded so that when the clutch pedal is pressed in the switch releases to an unloaded position?

That is what you want. But just barely, the arm on the switch can get easily bent if there is too much contact pressure from the clutch lever. I used a meter to check where the switch contacts opened/closed.

Good Luck
Andrew

Great, that's what I thought!! I tell you what, those Porsche engineers were getting back at us for what we did to the VW plant in WWII when they put that switch in its location in the tunnel. Thank goodness I had the pedal cluster out for rebuild and the console out for new AC switches. I even had the driver's seat out for room and I'm still hurting all over!!! Don't get me started on the location of the evaporator air intake and resistor pack behind the passenger foot board which was completely blocked by the PO installation of an alarm brain box!!! Thanks again for the help!
