should one automatically replace pressure plate?

will be replacing the tranny this summer. When I do so I will, for sure, replace the clutch disc and throwout bearing while I am in there. How about the pressure plate? Do they wear out or often fail?

Pressure Plate replacement......

Doug,

I was in a similar state of mind when I dropped my engine/trans. just replace the clutch disc, throw-out bearing, and leave the pressure plate. But several experienced individual advised me to do otherwise. I'm sure the're a few who re-used their old pressure plate with new clutch disc.

But if you're doing some serious driving like DE or track events, I wouldn't even think of re-using old pressure plate with new clutch disc. My two-cents.

You should resurface the flywheel and pressure plate. Should also replace the pilot bearing, throwout bearing and possibly the guide tube. The clutch forks have also been known to fail, in comparison to removing the whole thing again it is cheap insurance.
