Slow moving Window UP
 

84 Targa:

My Drivers window moves a lot slower going up than down.
I removed the switch and applied 12v to the leads and the window acts the same as when the switch is in place.
The window down is at a decent pace but up is slow.

I put some grease on the track but did not seem to help.

Any ideas ?
I searched but did not find a toubleshooing guide ?
Anyone know where there might be a trouble shooting guide for power windows ?

Does it go slowly with the door open too?

If it only goes slowly with the door closed, then the door (latch?) may have been adjusted at some point to create a tighter seal with the vertical rubber along side your Targa roll hoop...which also results in a lot more drag against the window thus slowing it down. I once saw this happen to a targa that had its door adjusted.

+1 on good advise above....If there is any binding, that should be taken care of first.

You can spray some silicone lubricant in the felt channel that the window slides up and down in.

This has worked for me on the 4 or so cars I have done this on.

With the door open or door closed it travels at the same speed :(

The fuzziness eventually wears from the channel, exposing the rubber, which tends to grab the glass. Try cleaning and lubricating as mentioned above. Eventually you will probably be replacing the part.

BTW does the window rock at all? Can you push the top (towards the back of the car) downward at all? If so, this can cause binding. Then you need to get inside the door and have a look.

Jabb, that was the first sign I got that the alternator was slowly failing in my 84 Carerra. It eventually did die. Check the battery condition and voltage, Glenn
