Rear deck speaker fitment. Possible elegant solution...

So, I got very annoyed today after going a couple places and test fitting several different 4x6 speakers in the rear deck of the '85 911.
Most speakers these days have that durn "lip" around the speaker that forces the grill to stand away from the material of the deck. No good, fugly.
Never-mind that a lot of 4x6 speakers don't have the mounting "ears" and are instead surrounded by a big, square piece...but this can be overcome now, I think...

Taking my aggravation and solution from trying to find 4x6 speakers that would fit into the doors of my '88 924S, I've decided on a spacer to fill in the gap. The ones I originally made for the 924S were not pretty, but they were functional.
Problem with using that solution on the 911 is that the grills are bent to conform to the rear deck..the hard plastic from the original 924S spacers will not conform.
I think I've figured out how to make them conform and look good, too. And provide enough room for a deeper speaker, as well.

I will obtain some heavy 1/4 inch felt, or dense black foam, cut to shape, which should conform the the shape of the grill, make it stand out a bit, and fill in the gap.
To get a bit more speaker mounting depth, a layer of foam under the speaker should work....

We shall see...
