Renegade V8 question
This may be an OT thread....
The question is about mounting gearboxes to alternative engines in general. It could even be about mounting a Miata engine to a Hewland gearbox. I know a few guys here run V8 conversions, so I thought they may have a quick answer. To mount a G50 or 915 to a V8 requires an adapter plate. How do you compensate the clutch for the plate thickness? Is the flywheel mounted to the crank with a spacer? Is the flywheel a custom manufactured with an offset? Or something I haven't thought of?? Thanks

The flywheels are usually custom designed with the center hub from the donor engine (SBC, etc) incorporated in a Porsche flywheel, with sufficient spacing to compensate for the adapter plate. I think Renegade has their own custom made ones, but Kennedy engineering has a variety of different ones as well:
http://www.kennedyeng.com/vw_por.htm Non-porsche example is the vw diesel-suzuki samurai kit I used in my samurai. It uses a Suzuki flywheel, with a VW "hub" welded into the center. It's spaced by 3/8", the same thickness of the adapter plate. Here's a Kennedy Adapter & Flywheel I bought a couple years ago. It's for a 901 tranny: ![]()
