Sunroof pipeline - is it easy to remove/install

So I decided to disassemble my sunroof as I thought the left side cable had let go. Turns out, both cables are intact. When I went to pull out the left side cable, there was a ton of resistance, which explains why it wasn't working. The cable was packed with some type of grease that had become a bit hard.

It appears someone had already replaced the cables and guides with the 964 units. The cables still have the felt on them.

I think I need to get all of the nasty grease out of the pipeline and off the cables. Is removing and installing the pipeline fairly straight forward? I have the transmission out and removing the motor looks easy.

Is the consensus that the cable are not to be lubricated? What about the guides?

Thanks.

not hard. Sunroof motor & gearbox both need to come out. You need to watch the sunroof motor wiring (which is wrapped around it) and the headliner. It’s a 8mm nut, washer and rubber washer at each end, and probably has a little tension on it (mine did). The ends fit into the ends of the guide rails so you may need to futz with those to ge the new one in. I just a new one in myself.

oh, you can use zep degreaser and a brush to get the grease out of the guides and out of the cables. Getting stuff out of the tube - get one of those sunroof drain brush things so you can scrub all the way through it.
