I paid 9k for the car, spent 90% of 4 years working on the car whenever i had money since both the motor and tranny crapped out on my after i got the car. Put another 10ish thousand into it, never got to track it like i had hoped, and then finally sold it for 6k. So in the end i got 13k dollars worth of knowledge in cars i wouldn't have gotten any other way, so i don't regret it, but i also won't do it again, with these cars anyway.

Diesel beetle gets 50mpg, and is surprisingly a torquey little thing. Actually with the bigger injectors it has it's got just as much torque as the 911 did (around 200ish lb-ft of torque). Besides the 911 was just a toy, one that i'll probably replace with something else down the road, the beetle is my commute.

Sounds like you bought a POS, next time buy smarter and you won't run into these problems.

No offense but starting with a 9k car is the problem. A few guys have gotten lucky at that price but for the most part a car that cheap usually has had a rough life without proper maintenance.

If you would have started with a car closer to the total you spent you probably would not have had to spent much at all afterward.

At any rate good luck on your other endeavors.

Just another example of the saying "Every 911 is a $20K car."

Authorized warranty work at a Porsche dealership on a Boxster would of ran you more I'm guessing. Throw in depreciation and you got away cheep.

Too bad, good luck. A slippery slope, indeed, but sounds like you never got to the bottom.

Add me. Jeez, 6K for a car that had 13K put into it? Is the market that bad? I know red cars are not the best sellers anymore, but that shouldn't take much value out of the car. My guess is we'll see this car FS again soon (for more).

Most of you will remember when I was so frustrated with "Helga" last summer that I almost sold her. I took your advice and Tab Tanner's advice and had him fix the car the "right way" and I've been happy ever since. I feel bad that others have had the same bad experience and I wish things could have worked out as well for 1fastredsc as they did for me. I can understand the frustration, I was just very lucky to find an honest, knowledgeable mechanic who had my best interests in mind!

I feel your pain. I did it with a Corvette. It just seems that one thing leads to another and the hole gets deeper each time. Next time you will buy with this experience behind you and it will be a much better experience. If it makes you feel any better my hit ended up 3 times what yours was.
