does anyone use a thinner body gasket(separates the bumper from rear fenders and body) or different material? the stock one is v thick, pushing the bumper down too far

Try putting spacers (washers) between the bumper mount and the car frame.

The bumper is installed. The gasket is so thick that there is a considerable gap between the top of the bumperettes and the bottom of deck lid.
