Odd place for a rotor crack

I am rebuilding my calipers and when I took the rear passenger rotor off to do a close inspection I found this crack on the inside parking brake "drum". Just thought it was an odd place to find a crack but something I will check in the future. I never set the parking brake after a track session in case your wondering. The rotors were down to 0.875" thickness which is real close to the limit, so they were heading for their last DE anyway. Glad I caught it. Anyway I just thought it was unusual enough to post and make folks aware.

Looks like it started at the hole? Is that another crack to the left too?

You are correct that it does extend to the hole above it. The crack is barely visible from the front and only extends towards the hub. It can only be seen if the light hits it at the right angle. I certainly didn't see it from the front and I am pretty carefull about looking for cracks on these x-drilled rotors based on past experience. In fact I'll be ordering new rotors today and they will not be these.

The line to the left is just a casting reminant.

I'd be lying if I said I have never pulled out of the driveway with the parking brake on But "quite a few miles"? Not that I am aware of, but....... perhaps the evidence says otherwise

The warning light does work. And the parking brakes do need to be adjusted when this rebuild is done. The lever had to be pulled way up to hold the car.

Hopefully you will be switching to non-drilled rotors if you will be continuing with the track work.

+1

as long as they're stock carrera brakes, there's no reason to jump on the crossdrilled bandwagon.
