Changing CIS Pistons to Carb

Changing CIS Pistons to Carb
Hey guys, looking for opinions on some options I'm considering.

This link describes my current situation ->
Feeler: 98MM Mahle Max Moritz 9.8:1 P&C, DC20 Cams

Basically I'm going to need to buy new pistons, 98mm, 10+CR for my 3.0SC case. I have a great set of mahle max moritz that I will sell - or perhaps use the cylinders.

My options are:

- new Mahle MotorSport 10.2:1 p&c, with rings, pins, etc for $4k+
- new Perfect Bore Cylinders with JE Pistons for $3k

The first option is HIGHLY recommended by Steve Weiner of Rennsport. He firmly believes this is, by far, the best solution for a street engine - he really likes the JE's for racing but not for street.

The second option is, obviously cheaper and I see tons of guys go this route.

And finally, should I consider using my Mahle cylinders with a set of JEs??? If I do that then I can't sell the set, I doubt anyone wants the max moritz pistons by themselves.

Obviously money is a consideration but its not the most important factor in my decision.

-Rob

I couldn't find the thread you referenced so forgive me if my points are off. Why don't you just use your Max Moritz set with carbs. I know you can't get as aggressive with the cams but you can get an improved cam and can even cut deeper pockets for more cam if you want. Unless you are racing in a GT class you'll get plenty of power and more importantly driveability with this setup. Much less expensive than buying new P/C's.

With a set of 46mm PMO's or Webers you can get 260 HP or more with the right exhaust and tuning.

Link fixed, I hope.

I guess its not a matter of 'I need to replace' but rather 'I want to replace'. My reasoning is that I will be leaving a lot of HP on the table with the cam limitation. I've already spent a lot of time, energy, and money that the extra cost isn't a total put-off.

I'm not sure the MM can be machined beyond DC20.

1k$ is all?
& you buy yourself a lot lower failure rate?

Are you planning to die soon? If so, then go against Steve's advice, cuz the additional longevity of your motor won't amtter to you then...

I was expecting a lot of JE users to pipe in here saying I should go with JEs. Any other opinions? Anyone HAD JEs and switched back to Mahles?
