Smokey Exhaust ? from a New Guy...
My 1987 911 spent 2 days at the mechanic...transmission work (replaced mainshaft seal, clutch fork assembly, pivot shaft, and guide tube for throw-out bearing), new clutch & rear sway bar bracket replacement. Picked it up today..drove from the shop to work, then from work to home. During both rides I noticed A LOT of blue smoke coming from the exhaust at stoplights prior to the car being fully warmed-up (NEVER an issue before). The car also seemed a little noisier & slightly less responsive than I'm used to (couldn't be related to a much better clutch, could it??). The engine didn't miss or idle bad.
Checked the oil level when I finally got it home (after a 30 minute +/- commute). Oil was between the marks (closer to the full mark) & the smoking had stopped completely. It was rainy around here all day. The car probably got rained on at the mechanics shop in the morning, plus the spot I had in the parking garage at work was located such that a lot of water likely get thru the rear grill & into the engine compartment during a pretty good storm this afternoon. Can a wet engine (from a rain storm or car wash) cause blue smoke? FWIW, a compression test during a PPI 7-8 weeks ago showed no issues. Thanks in advance,

Did you happen to notice if it was coming out the pipes or from around the whole thing? If just in the general area, lets hope it was just residual oil on the exhaust. If it is, it will burn off and the smoke should go away.
I would not think water would do anything to cause smoke.
