current car value

All,

Any feed back,

I have found a 911 SC 1982 with 230 K mi and rebuild engine with new clutch. we have settled on a price of $ 13 K.

Any thoughts, bodies been repainted, excellent interior, etc. New tires, and with a history file.

Car runs great!

I need to decide shortly and any comments to clear my head and telling me not to buy is most welcome.

Okay, I'll go first. I think that's too much for a 230k car. Get a PPI before you make a decision- and hopefully others will chime in on whether it's a good deal or not. Got any pictures?

Hope it works out for you either way,

Paul.

great response!

Thanks for your reality check, I thought having the engine rebuilt would outweigh the mileage.

I too think you are right on this, just wanted someone else to tell me.

Not that I know a whole lot about cars...but I would have to agree that sounds a bit high for me. But I did see a line a while back posted on the boards that went something like this: All P-cars cost $20K, either pay for it when you buy it or pay for it in repairs afterwords. Ok, I think I really butchered it. But back on topic, if it were me, I'd keep looking.

my 1981 sc had 217k when picked it up last year, it cost me 10K, PO also gave me receipts totaling 11K from the past 3 year bringing everything up to par

I bought mine last year, Souther Cali car, 110K miles, looks and drives like new, with many cooling and engine updates. $15K

$13K for the one you're looking at is WAY too much.

I bought a similar car a few months ago - 82SC targa: 210k on the chassis with about 95k on a rebuilt motor. All new interior including dash and seats. Original paint, Carrera tensioners - also ran great. I paid 11.9. Since then I have changed the fuel accumulator, voltage regulator and now an engine mounted oil cooler. All together I am +$2400.00 after purchase. I still think I'm okay based on the "All old Porsches are 20k cars" theory, and don't regret the purchase...LOVE driving this car (It's my daily driver)

BUT - If I were to do it again, I might try to talk the sales guy out of a couple grand...you might want to do the same or keep looking... my $0.02.

Good luck!

Bought my G-50 Carrera 3 years ago for 13K with 100,000 miles. Original paint with dings and small dents and crappy tires. The market for 911's out east where I am is a little softer, but I agree that 13K for an SC with that amount of miles is a little too much.

I don't think its necessarily too much. Depends on who owned the car and the repairs/upgrades/maintenance history. Next car I buy will be from an enthusiast, like me, who has dumped cash into making everything on the car work and like new. I'll take a car with 500k on the clock if the motor, tranny, clutch etc. are fresh, shocks have replaced, etc, etc. He should be able to show you all the receipts for what has been done. GL!

Mark, are those Canadian dollars?
I bought my 82 Targa last year.
131,000 miles and paid $11000 US.

those are US dollars

The 13 K I was discussed with the sales person is USD.

Based so far from what I have read is that 13 K is too much. I had the same concerns since it does have alot of mileage. I thought the broad history file and the rebuilt engine and clutch would out weigh the higher mileage.

I'll wait for the right car at a lower price or a better car with less mileage at the same price.

thanks for the great responses.
