915 Question - what have I done?

Ah stupid mistake I made while changing my tranny fluid. I took out a bolt on the right side, that had a spring behind it. It was the bolt, a washer and this spring in the hole. The spring never came out. Anyways, did I mess something up with my reverse. It seems to drive the same 1 - 5. Doesn't like to go into reverse with engine running. Not sure if this is related, it has acted funny in the past going into reverse.

Any suggestions? Not that big of a deal I think. Just don't put in reverse while engine running.

Thanks,

David

That is a detent spring for your shift rods. As long as nothing fell out and you put the plug back in with the spring you don't have a problem. There is a ball in there the spring pushes on and the ball goes into a detent on the shift rod to make it stay in place when the car is in gear.

Actually, it's not really a "ball", it's pill shaped on a 915.

Not going into reverse without grinding is a sign that your clutch isn't fully releasing. Check on this... sometimes a simple adjustment at the clutch pedal.
