Just back from the local Meineke...

So, I have this Meineke a couple of blocks from my house. Close enough that I thought I could get away with driving the muffler-less car without attracting any unwanted attention from Johnny Law.

Here is the Quote, which seemed pretty steep to me:

Flowmaster 80 Series, part # 42582 2-in, 2-out: $189.95 (!)
Pipe, from heat exchanger to muffler: $24.95 (x 2)
Tailpipe: $19.95 (x2)
Labor: $100
Supplies: $8.95.

Total, w/Tax: $412.69.

Does that seem expensive or is it just me? I thought the muffler would be about $100, the labor *maybe* $100, and the parts *maybe* another $50. Or maybe I'm completely skewed on the whole thing and that's a good price. Anyone?

I don't want to bad mouth anyone, but get to know the guys there. Find out if thy can weld. Find out if they have joy in what they do or if they watch the clock. This can mean the differance in a job you like or another project you will need to get fixed.
Those places many times are employing off the street with no real good experience. Maybe try your local hot rod muffler shop?

rennch 06-05-2007 05:15 PM

Yea, there's a place about 20 minutes up the road that does all the race cars around, but this place was really local so I thought I'd give them a crack at it. I'll probably go to the other place anyway.

Go to the hot rod shop. Those guys will most likely appreciate working on your car anyway. My local MufflerMan did mine a few years ago for $100.00 labor. I took the muffler in to them and showed them EXACTLY what I wanted and they did it perfectly. I still rev it up for them when I go past the shop. :) They had never worked on a Porsch.

seems crazy expensive for that setup

Jack Olsen 06-05-2007 06:44 PM

That's too expensive.

rennch 06-06-2007 11:25 AM

I thought so too Jack. Especially because they wanted $189 for the muffler itself!

rennch 06-06-2007 11:26 AM

I think I should get the muffler ahead of time, and have someone just do the plumbing.

DanielDudley never got back to me about his setup he had for sale. I don't know if he's been online since.

Check Camaro/Firebird forums for late model mufflers. You may find something very cheap.

Wayne...that's a great idea, actually. Great, great idea.

Here's one.

Wow Wayne, you're hired. :)

Unfortunately, the guy is selling it for the same amount I can buy it new for....

Hetmann 06-08-2007 12:06 PM

I have a 1 in 1 out flowmaster on my car. I really like the sound and it is not too loud. The price quoted is probably fair if they do a good job fitting the muffler and fabricate a proper hanger to bolt it up with. Also, the whole setup should be painted or coated to protect it from rusting.

It would appear as if DanielDudley has been hit by a blimp and dropped off the face of the earth. Alas...I was hoping for that muffler.

He made an appearance last night, right here on Pelican...

Hope this helps. I know you've been trying to contact him for at least a week now...

rennch 06-12-2007 12:37 PM

Yea...I don't think he's interested. I've PM'ed him a couple of times, to no avail. Alas...
