Anyone using a 1" adapters on rear with 7" Fuchs?
 

I just removed my cup wheels and 1" and 1.5" adapters...replacing with much anticipated 6/7" polished fuchs (yes done foolishly by myself) with Hankook RS2 205/55/16 front and 225/50/16 rears on my 85 carrera.

Question, I've seen several posts @ 19 or 21mm spacers and fuchs on the rears, but anyone use 1" adapters on rears, 7" fuchs, 225/50/16s on a mid 80s Carrera with no rubbing??? You can guess i'd like to reuse my 1" adapters if at all possible.....

You've already got the spacers, go bolt them up and see if they will rub. If it looks close, a knee on the rear bumper to compress the suspension a bit will tell you what you need to know.

I believe it will give a similar effect to running 9X16 w/o the deep dish effect. Shouldn't rub with 225's.

By the way, nice paint / polish job. Looks great.

Yes I know a few people who run 1" rear spacers with 7" Fuchs. Go ahead and try it.

Thanks guys...planning to replace my tie rods this weekend with turbo tie rods and then I'll put the 1" spacers on the rear and try my fuchs....will hopefully let you know tues how it goes.

Always been curious as to how close is too close on the clearance between the tire and the inside lip of the fender (1/4", 1/2", ???). How do you make sure that any side to side play during cornering doesn't lead to tire damage?

I ran 1" spacers with 7's before. Plenty of room left over. You really won't have cornering issues with those in the back.

Well, I got my turbo tie rods and fuchs on!! Tie rods were harder that expected (getting old ones off tough). See below @ pics...also I tried to take a picture of the tire/lip clearances....as it turns out, I put the ruler on the bottom and top of the tire so that it is verticle...with the extreme outside of the tire, 1" spacers on 7" fuchs, 225/50/16 hankook rs2, there is pretty much no clearance with the lip, but it is pretty far down on the tire itself as you can see...with this, should I expect problems?????? .My car is 98% street car btw.

another angle....btw, i'm going this week for an alignment, as my last wheels wore out on the inside way before they should...probably have too much neg camber @ rear, which will may increase the possibility of rubbing...here is another view.

I have a question about the hardware that gunlover is using _are those spacers, or are they adapters? I was told the safe way to space out your wheels was to use spacers and longer wheel studs. Does anyone out there have an opinion?

herr_oberst, I should clarify....those are 1" adapters, not spacers...spacers are supposed to be better, as they are lighter, and less bolts/nuts to worry about loosening...disadvantage @ adapters is you cant see the nuts underneath... If I were tracking the car, I would switch to spacers, but I don't track the car, and I had the adapters from the other wheels, so I am trying to get them to work......

I have a question...did anyone read my embedded thread on the fitments that work and and the description of why ( or why not) they work ???

I'll mention why I ask this question in a later response. Long time posters will know what I'm talking about......

Ok then... proof again that no one reads the embedded links ...let me restate the "findings" I put together from data in the link...don't shoot the messenger, this is the composite answer from many sources...

From all this data ( just from this post and the embedded links alone), we can come up with some pretty interesting "facts"....all dependent however on "specific" tire sizes ( and shoulder shape...square vs round) amount of camber being run, and amount of fender lip rolling done.

Outside edge "vertical plane" locations/equivalents:

7"Fuchs = base
8" Fuchs = 7"Fuchs + 25mm
9" Fuchs = 8"Fuchs + 10 mm
9" Fuchs = 7"Fuchs + 35 mm

Also, from the link:
8"Fuchs + 25mm spacer = "not good"

From Jeremy:
9" Fuchs + 12 mm spacer = "good"

So let's see if we can substitute equivalent values and see if this all hangs together...OK?

8" Fuchs + 25 mm spacer = not good ---> this is the same as saying ( 9"Fuchs-10mm) + 25mm = not good....or..

.. 9" Fuchs + 15 mm spacer is "not good"
Jeremy says 9" Fuchs + 12 mm spacer = "good".

So HERE we define the very NARROW window of opportunity, somewhere between 12mm and 15mm spacers on a 9" rim. Let's say the practical limit is 12 mm spacer with 9"Fuchs based upon all this.

So....9" Fuchs+12 mm spacer = OK
that means 8" + 22mm spacer = OK ( limit)
that means 7" + 47mm spacer = OK ( limit)

This also implies my spacer of 21mm could be increased by 26mm ( say 1") to get to this limit for my 7" Fuchs case. Frankly, looking at Jeremy's pics and my own car which looks IDENTICAL to Jeremy's pics...I still can't see that although numbers don't lie.....

thanks for the summary will....I agree with you that something doesn't seem right with 47mm spacer +7" fuchs....as my pics show with effectively 25mm spacers and 7" fuchs, I can't see adding an additional 21mm to my tire/wheel/spacer combo...but my tires stick out a good bit past my rims as you can see....this is why I wasn't sure about the numbers, but I'm just a newbie ya know.
