Warped Rear Targa Shelf

Has anyone successfully heated and straightened the warped plastic piece at the top of the shelf shown below? Alternatively, anyone have a brilliant idea on how to replace/repair this NLA piece? Thanks! -- Curt

Hmmm, no replies so I decided to fire up the torch and give it a try. Not much to lose I suppose. I gently warmed up the plastic (with the vinyl and foam backing still attached). Worked it around by hand a bit and then pressed it down against a sheet of plywood with another board. I'd say there's a 90% improvement! Not perfect, but much, much better than before. I'll try to fine tune it a bit more tomorrow. -- Curt

Curt my coupe has the same problem. I've been planning to $hit can it when I get the RS America carpet set.

But heating it with something and pressing it into shape seems like a good idea.

Very old thread I know but wondering if anyone else has some information about this. Mine is warped and im about to try this method. I dont own a torch... would a hair dryer be hot enough? Thanks.

Brian,

I would think a hair drier wouldn't generate enough heat.

You could try a heat gun on the thing, which should soften it up well enough.

The heating method did work well. Unfortunately, it is now 5 years later and the sun (and engine heat) has worked its magic again - it's pretty much warped just like before. The solution is probably to fabricate a new piece out of different material.
